Rebel Rebel Flower School, Tuscany  |  Next date 14th May 2018

Following our success with evening workshops in Hackney and our classes in Beijing in China we have decided to open our school during the summer in our favourite part of Italy, far from the madding crowds, in the mountains just a winding single track train ride from the beautiful walled city of Lucca in Tuscany.

Our house is in a small hamlet near Barga, a medieval hillside town, in the middle of the wide valley of the River Serchio.  The area is called the Garfagnana, a protected area of natural beauty.

This spring we planted a cutting garden and we’ll forage in the fields and woods nearby.  Our natural style of flower-arranging will benefit from the native flora and the flowers that we buy from the commercial market at San Remo. Italian summer flowers include peonies, roses, sweet peas, snapdragons, stocks, all our favourites.

Flights not included

£1650 per person single room

£1350 per person shared room (group bookings)

Cost includes accommodation for six nights, all tools, materials, breakfast, 3 course lunch and final night feast.

The Summer School is over four days during which you will create our signature Bouquet on Legs, learn to wire elaborate flower crowns and perfect buttonholes, work as a team on a large installation, and decorate our garden – the focus of the last night feast – with flowers, feathers, branches and lights.  We want our students to find the way into their own floral style with our expert help.  Plus pizza.  Plus aperitivi.

There is a break day in between for you to explore the beautiful surroundings or relax and enjoy the tranquility.

14th May - Flowers and 'Floraging'
A foraging walk through the beautiful surrounding woodland. Using our foraged ingredients, as well as Italian grown flowers and a few from our cutting garden, we will then make our signature Bouquet on Legs.

15th May - The Technical Side
Cracking the ins and outs of wiring. Everything from flowers to fruit, you will learn one of the most fundamental floristry skills. Channelling our favourite British florist, we will spend the afternoon learning the art of making a Constance Spry arrangement, with a touch of Italian flair.

16th May - Break Day to explore the local area or relax beside the pool.

17th May - Into the Woods
Day Three will be spent in the heart of the surrounding woodlands. We will spend the whole day making a flower installation in the woods. Each course will make something different, so the surprise awaits.

18th May - The Final Feast
The morning will be spent making our festive headdresses for the evening. In true Rebel style, they will be wild and exciting, steering away from traditional flower crowns. We will spend the afternoon dressing the table for the feast. The table decorations will incorporate all the skills you have learnt over the last few days.
THE FEAST – In the evening we will sit down to a feast in the field to say our final farewells and thank yous!

You will be staying in a traditional Garfagnana farmhouse with chestnut beams, exposed stone and terracotta tiles. Perched above a terraced amphitheatre with a small vineyard the property has a covered breakfast terrace and a vine clad dining terrace with huge rustic table and benches. Antique furniture, fabulously comfortable bedrooms with high ceilings and a superbly equipped cook’s kitchen add a touch of luxury to this rural retreat. Click here for more information.

You can fly to Pisa with British Airways, Easyjet or Ryanair and then hire a car or take the train through Lucca up to our local station. Airport pickups can be arranged upon request.
