REBEL: noun. Definition: one who resists authority, control or convention.
MAIREAD and ATHENA
We called ourselves Rebel Rebel, on a whim, because someone asked us our name and we had to have an answer, because there are two of us, and we both had red hair at the time, because we didn’t want to follow fashion but do our own thing, and because David Bowie is a bit of a hero.
We founded Rebel Rebel in 2000, because we love flowers and it seemed like a good idea. Since then we have worked hard, learned our craft, learned about flowers, worked even harder, learned more and built up our Rebel team of imaginative, creative, clever florists whose ambition and flamboyance fills us with excitement (whilst tolerating their wide range of musical tastes – we’re talking Lana del Rey, Steely Dan, Beyonce and Crowded House.) ‘Let’s Dance to Joy Division’ by The Wombats if you want to know….
Our favourite flowers? Impossible. Today it’s butterfly ranunculus, yesterday it was fluffy mimosa, last month it was Icelandic poppies, last week it was frittilaria Persica and tomorrow? Who knows? It depends on what we love the best. And when you are reading this!
We buy flowers and foliage from New Covent Garden flower market every morning. Mostly seasonal, often British, we choose what we personally like and hope that you share our love.
We have a flower shop in Mare Street Market, 117 Mare Street (Corner of Westgate Street) London, E8 4RU, open Monday to Saturday, 9:30am until 6.30pm and Sunday 10.00am until 5.00pm. A market stall in Old Spitalfields Market, E1 6EW, open Monday to Sunday, 11:00am until 6.00pm.
From our workshop in Regent Studios, Rebel Rebel specialise in flowers for weddings, corporate events, parties, installations and contracts.
We also run flower workshops in London and Tuscany and regularly hold courses at the Cohim Flower School in Beijing.
