TUSCAN FLOWER SCHOOL
TUSCAN SUMMER FLOWER SCHOOL 2020
28 JUNE - 4 JULY | 2 - 8 AUGUST | 30 AUGUST - 5 SEPTEMBER
After the sell-out success of our Summer Flower School this year, we’ve added three course dates for 2020. Spend five wonderful days with us as we teach you practical skills, exploring design ideas in the Rebel style of floristry: extravagant flower crowns, large installations and table settings for the fabulous final feast. We will take a trip into the mountains near Barga, spend time at Rebel Rebel’s own house and cutting garden, forage in the woods and meet some of the people who help create the Rebel experience in Italy. Our resident chef cooks lunch for us every day and is already planning the final night’s fantastic feast.
The accommodation is at Col di Lavacchio, a working organic Tuscan farm and agriturismo, with gorgeous views across the Garfagnana valley. Here you can explore its vineyard, wild flower meadow, orchard and woodland or relax by the 12m swimming pool.
This workshop is suitable for all levels and not just beginners.
The Tuscany Summer Flower School is spread over five days, with six nights accommodation.
You will arrive at your home for the next week, Col di Lavacchio. In the evening there will be welcome drinks and dinner.
MONDAY - DAY 1: FLOWERS & FORAGING
On the first day you will learn the fundamental skills of floristry by creating a bouquet and a vase arrangement. We’ll take you on a foraging walk through the local woodland and wild flower meadows to gather your materials and get acquainted with the local landscape.
TUESDAY - DAY 2: SECRET GARDEN
On Tuesday we welcome you into the world of Rebel Rebel Italia. You’ll be introduced to our flower field, where you’ll learn how we grow and get to know the varieties we cultivate. You’ll be free to cut your own flowers to build a floral-foam-free arch in the field. After a long lunch we will head up to Barga to create another installation to transform a secret walled garden in the middle of the medieval town.
WEDNESDAY - DAY 3: BREAK
This is your day to relax. You can explore the local area, or take a trip to the medieval walled city of Lucca (recommended if you haven’t been there). We provide transport to and from the train station and we are happy to recommend restaurants and bars. Alternatively, you can stay at Col di Lavacchio and relax by the pool.
THURSDAY - DAY 4: FLORAL INSTALLATION
We will spend the fourth day at a beautiful local villa, creating a stunning floral installation to augment the beautiful building and gardens. Our decorations will include an archway, garlands and a hanging installation. You’ll have a full day of flowers and group working, with our chefs visiting the location with a grand picnic that celebrates the best of local produce.
FRIDAY - DAY 5: FINAL FEAST
Our final day will be based at Col di Lavcchio, preparing for the final feast. Using all the experience and techniques mastered over the previous days, we will spend the morning working as a team decorating our dining table and surroundings for our farewell celebrations. After lunch, you will learn the art of wiring flower crowns and buttonholes to wear that evening, as we toast a great week together with delicious food, wine and cocktails.
In the kitchen the focus is on celebrating the seasons and the abundant landscape of the Garfagana. We endeavour to grow a lot of our own produce on our modest orto (vedgtable garden), whilst gathering the rest of the ingredients from local artisans and farmer’s markets. It is our intention to both excite and nourish with what we put on the table – exploring the tastes and traditions of the area but also bringing the techniques and experience our chefs have gathered over their time working across the gastronomic spectrum in London.
