TUSCANY FLOWER SCHOOL
TUSCANY SUMMER FLOWER SCHOOL, 5 - 9 AUGUST 2019
After the sell-out success of our Summer Flower School in June, this August we are adding an extra course. Spend five wonderful days with us as we teach you practical skills, exploring design ideas in the Rebel style of floristry: the super-sized Bouquet on Legs, extravagant flower crowns, large installations and table settings for the fabulous final feast. We will take a trip into the mountains near Barga, spend time at Rebel Rebel’s own house and cutting garden, forage in the woods and meet some of the people who help create the Rebel experience in Italy. Our resident chef cooks lunch for us every day and is already planning the final night’s fantastic feast.
When you aren’t embracing your new skills and admiring your works of art, the historic centre of Barga is just a stone’s throw away, so your evenings could be spent strolling through the atmospheric narrow streets, exploring the, cafes, bars and restaurants that can be found around every corner.
The accommodation is at Col di Lavacchio, a working organic Tuscan farm and agriturismo, with gorgeous views across the Garfagnana valley. Here you can explore its vineyard, wild flower meadow, orchard and woodland or relax by the 12m swimming pool.
This workshop is suitable for all levels and not just beginners.
The Tuscany Summer Flower School is spread over five days, with six nights accommodation.
SUNDAY - 4 AUGUST
You will arrive at your home for the next week, Col di Lavacchio. In the evening there will be welcome drinks and dinner.
MONDAY - DAY 1: FLOWERS & FORAGING
On the first day you will learn the most fundamental and sometimes challenging skill of making a bouquet. We will also use this day to get to know the surrounding area with a long foraging walk through the local woodland, meadows, groves and fields.
TUESDAY - DAY 2: THE TECHNICAL SIDE
This day is all about arranging! The morning is quintessentially English, learning the art of making a classic ‘Constance Spry’ arrangement. After lunch we will put our morning skills to work, making large and dramatic urn arrangements in our local town of Barga.
WEDNESDAY - DAY 3: BREAK
This is your day to relax. You can explore the local area, or take a trip to the medieval walled city of Lucca (recommended if you haven’t been there). We provide transport to and from the train station and we are happy to recommend restaurants and bars. Alternatively, you can stay at Col di Lavacchio and relax by the pool.
THURSDAY - DAY 4: FLORAL INSTALLATION
We will spend the fourth day at a beautiful local villa, creating a stunning floral installation - archway construction and decoration, garlanding, hanging installation, the lot! It will be a full day of flowers and group working.
FRIDAY - DAY 5: FINAL FEAST
Our final day will be based at Col di Lavcchio, preparing for the Final Feast. Using all the experience and techniques mastered over the last few days, we will spend the morning working as a team decorating our feast table and location for our final night together. After lunch, you will learn the art of wiring flower crowns and buttonholes to wear that evening, as we celebrate a great week together with delicious food, and copious amounts of wine of course!
